A solution consists of 30 percent of water by weight. After boiling the solution for 15 minutes, 70 percent water, by weight, was evaporated. There is no weight loss for the other part of the solution. What percent of the solution’s total remaining weight consists of the remaining water?

(A) 500/69 %

(B) 600/69 %

(C) 700/79 %

(D) 900/79 %

(E) 100/69 %

Solution

    • Let us assume that total weight of the solution is 100 units.
o So, weight of the water = 30 units
      o And, weight of the other part of solution \(= (100 – 30 ) = 70\) units,
    • Since, 70% water is evaporated. So remaining water = 30% of 30 units \(= \frac{30*30}{100} = 9\) units.
    • Thus, the required percentage = (weight of remaining water/ total weight of remaining solution) \(* 100 = \frac{9}{(70+9)}*100 = \frac{900}{79}\)
Thus, the correct answer is Option D.
