• The number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2004 is 20% less than the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003
• The number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2002 is 15% more than the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003
To find:
- • The number of students, who participated in the year 2002
Approach and Working:
The number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2004 = the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003 – \(\frac{20}{100}\) * the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003
- • Implies, 1200 = 0.8 * (the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003)
• Thus, the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003 = \(\frac{1200}{0.8} = 1500\)
The number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2002 = the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003 + \(\frac{15}{100}\) * the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2003
- • Implies, the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2002 = 1500 + 0.15 * 1500 = 1725.
• Therefore, the number of students, who participated in the quiz, in 2002 = 1725
Hence, the correct answer is Option E.
