If it takes 5 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?

A. 1 minute
B. 5 minutes
C. 10 minutes
D. 15 minutes
E. 100 minutes

The rate of 5 machines is 1 widget per minute, so the rate of 100 machines is 1 x 20 = 20 widgets per minute, so it will take 100 machines 100/20 = 5 minutes to make 100 widgets.

Answer: B

We know M1T1/W1 = M2 T2 /W2

5 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets.

So, 5 * 5 /5 = 100 * T2 /100

=>T2 = 5
(option b )

\(5*5*100 = 100*t*5\)

The key concept to understand is that the usual Work-rate formula can be written as:

W = R x T x #machines

This rearranges to:
100 = 1/5t x 100

Solve for t:
500/100 = 5 mins = t
