Mode the most frequently occurring number found in a set of numbers.
Here, the data set is 2, 5, 7, 11, 2, 5, 6, 2, x -> where 2 appears 3 times and 5 appears 2 times and rest all appears once. The question states that there is only one mode in this data set. Without looking at the options, we can say that mode has to be 2 because if x=2, then 2 will appear 4 times, which is maximum. If x=5, then both 2 and 5 would be 3 times and that is not possible as only one mode exists. Hence, x=2 and mode is 2. Option A

I thought the same, and then failed, like about 40% of people who have attempted this question so far.

If x=7, there will be 2 '7s' in the set, and there will still be only 1 mode, i.e 2.
The lesson is to not take any question lightly, no matter how easy it seems. :)
