Hi
Bunuel, I have doubt on this one. I marked answer as 120 - 25% of 800 is 200; To make them 40% of total employees aka 320; we need to add 120 more people. What is wrong in my approach, and I don't understand how it can be 200. Could you please explain this?
Bunuel
In a company of 800 employees, 25% hold administrative positions. How many administrative employees would have to be added for the number of administrative employees to be 40% of the total number of employees?
A 80
B 120
C 200
D 320
E 400
When we add new administrative employees, the total number of employees also increases by the same amount.
Let x be the number of administrative employees that need to be added to make them 40% of the total employees.
Currently, the number of administrative employees is 0.25 * 800 = 200. After adding x employees, the number of administrative employees becomes 200 + x, and the total number of employees becomes 800 + x. Thus, we need such x that satisfy the following equation:
200 + x = 0.4(800 + x)
Solving gives x = 200
Thus, 200 administrative employees need to be added.
Answer: C.
Hope it's clear.
