There are approximately 2.2 pounds in one kilogram. To the nearest eighteenth, how many eighteenths of a kilogram are there in one pound?

A. 7
B. 8
C. 9
D. 39
E. 40

Since 1 kg = 2.2 lbs, so 1 lb = 1/2.2 = 10/22 = 5/11 kg. Therefore, there are (5/11)/(1/18) = 90/11 ≈ 8 eighteenths of a kilogram are there in one pound.

Alternate Solution:

Let’s first set up a proportion to find the number of kilograms in 1 pound.

2.2 pounds/1 kilogram = 1 pound/x kilograms

2.2x = 1

x = 1/2.2

Thus, 1 pound is 1/2.2 kilograms, or 0.454545 kilograms.

Now, we set up another proportion to convert the equivalent of 0.454545 kilograms to eighteenths (of a kilogram).

0.454545 = y/18

y ≈ 8.18

This means that 1/2.2 kilograms (0.454545 kilograms) is approximately equal to 8 eighteenths kilograms.

1 kg = 2.2 pounds = \(\frac{22}{10} = [m]\frac{11}{5}\)[/m] pounds

Therefore, 1 pound = \(\frac{5}{11}\) kg

\(\frac{1}{18}\) of kgs will be: \(\frac{(18 * 5) }{ 11}\) = \(\frac{90}{11}\) = 8
