If a − b + c − d + e = 875 and b + d = 200, then what is the mean of a, b, c, d, and e?

A. 255

B. 215

C. 175

D. 135

E. It is impossible to tell from the information given.

Given,

a + c + e - b - d = 875

a + c + e - ( b + d) = 875

a + c + e - 200 = 875

a + c + e = 675.

and b + d =200.

\(\frac{a + b + c + d + e}{5}\)

= \(\frac{675 + 200}{5}\)

= 175.

C is the correct answer.
i think u have incorrectly subtracted 200,it needs to be added

Solution

Given:
    • a – b + c – d + e = 875
    • b + d = 200

To find:
    • The mean of {a, b, c, d, e} = \(\frac{(a + b + c + d + e)}{5}\)

Approach and Working:
    • a + c + e – (b + d) = 875
      o This implies, a + c + e = 875 + 200 = 1075

    • Thus, a + b + c + d + e = 1075 + 200 = 1275
    • Therefore, mean = \(\frac{1275}{5} = 255\)

Hence, the correct answer is Option A

Answer: A
