Dave needs 7 windows. He buys 4 windows at 400$. He gets one more for free. Total 5 windows. Now he needs to buy 2 more windows at 200$. In total, he spends 600$.
Similarly, Dough buys 4 windows at 400$, then he buys 3 more at 300$. In total he spends 700$ for 8 windows.
Total they spent 1300$.
Now, buying together. They need to buy 15 windows. They'll buy 12 windows and they'll get 3 windows for free. They spent 1200$ for 12 windows.
Difference is 100$.
A is the answer.

- • The amount (dollars) Dave and Doug will save, if they purchase the windows together, rather than separately.
Approach and Working:
Let us consider the case first when they buy the windows separately.
- • Expense of Dave = $100 x 4 + $0 x 1 + $100 x 2 = $400 + $200 = $600
• Expense of Doug = $100 x 4 + $0 x 1 + $100 x 3 = $400 + $300 = $700
• Together they spent = $600 + $700 = $1300
Now, considering the scenario where they buy the windows together.
- • Total windows to buy = 7 + 8 = 15
• Therefore, total expense = $100 x 4 + $0 x 1 + $100 x 4 + $0 x 1 + $100 x 4 + $0 x 1 = $400 + $400 + $400 = $1200
• So, the possible savings = $1300 – $1200 = $100
Hence, the correct answer is option A.
