y= f ( x) ..means y is function of x....y will take value as per the x values in the function f(x)....

f(k) = 2 or 2 = f(k) .....means for k value of x in function f(x) ......y=2 ....From the graph we can see when y= 2 then x value on the graph would be somewhere from 1.75 to 3 ( Horizontal line in first quadrant) so only 2.5 is the value lying in that range.

f(k)=2
That implies, x=k, y=2
In the first quadrant when y = 2, x could be from 1.75 to 3.5(approx). Only D is in this range.
In the second quadrant when y = 2, x could be around -2. No such value is present in the choice.
