My method is a bit long if there is a better method I am open to it
We are solving for
3/4*73.5/100*x - 1/4*73.5/100*x = 2/4*73.5/100*x
We know(3/4*73.5/100*x)=9261
So 2/4*73.5/100*x= 9261/3*2= 6174

Let the total number of voters be "X".

The number of votes cast = 0.75X

Number of valid votes = 0.98*0.75X

A candidate got 9261 votes which 0.75*0.98*0.75X

9261 = 0.75*0.98*0.75X

X = 16800.

The number of voters are 16800.

The number of votes cast = 12600

Number of valid votes = 12348

A candidate received 9261 votes, so the other candidate received 3087 votes.

The winning candidate received 9261 - 3087 = 6174 votes more than the losing candidate.

In an election between two candidates, 75% of the voters cast their votes, out of which 2% of the votes were declared invalid. A candidate got 9261 votes which were 75% of the total valid votes. How many more votes did the winning candidate receive ?

(A) 3087
(B) 6174
(C) 12600
(D) 16464
(E) 16800

total votes casted
0.75*.98*.75*x= 9261
x= 16800
total votes 16800 * .75 ; 12600
valid votes ; 12600 * .98 ; 12348
total votes casted = 9261
difference ; 12348-9261 ; 3087
winning votes ; 9261-3087 = 6174

We don't need the first part of the information given to us. Also, looking at the options, either A or B has to be the correct answer.

3/4 total votes = 9261 => 1/4 votes = 9261/3 (~3000) went to losing candidate
Difference ~ 9000 - 3000 = somewhere around 6000. (B)
