The roll numbers of students in a college are alpha-numeric sequences of 6 characters. The first and fourth characters are letters while the other four are non-zero digits. While the first character is a vowel, the fourth is a letter from a to e (both inclusive). The second character is 2 and the third is a multiple of 2. The sixth character is 5 more than the fifth. How many roll numbers can be formed?

A. 200
B. 240
C. 300
D. 360
E. 400

There are 5 options (a, e, i, o , u) for the first character

There is 1 option (2) for the second

There are 4 options (2,4,6,8) for the third

There are 5 options (a, b, c, d, e) for the fourth

There are 4 options for the fifth (1, 2, 3, and 4)

There is only 1 option for the sixth (It must be exactly 5 more than the fifth character)

Thus, the total number of options is 5 x 1 x 4 x 5 x 4 x 1 = 20 x 20 = 400

Answer: E

given its a 6 character alpha numeric sequence
so
first = a,e,i,o,u ; 5
2nd = 2; 1
3rd=2,4,6,8 ; 4
4th = a,b,c,d,e; 5
5th & 6th has to be non zero ; 16,27,38,49 ; 4 possible

total cases possible ; 5*1*4*5*4 ; 400 IMO E

Hello Archit3110!

How do we find the red numbers?

Kind regards!
