There are 8 ounces in a 1/2 pound. How many ounces are in 7 3/4 pounds?

A. 12 ounces
B. 86 ounces
C. 119 ounces
D. 124 ounces
E. 138 ounces

1 lbs = 16 ounces
so 31/4 lbs = 16*31/4 ; 124 ounces

Given:

8 ounces = \(\frac{1}{2} pound\) ->(a)

Multiplying (a) by 2 on both sides
16 ounces = 1 pound -> (b)

Multiplying (a) by \(\frac{3}{4}\) on both sides
12 ounces = \(\frac{3}{4}\) pounds -> (c)

Multiplying (a) by 7 on both sides
112 ounces = 7 pound -> (d)

Adding (c) and (d) we get
12 ounces + 112 ounces = 7 pounds + \(\frac{3}{4}\) pounds
124 ounces = \(7\frac{3}{4}\) pounds

A. 12 ounces
B. 86 ounces
C. 119 ounces
D. 124 ounces
E. 138 ounces

We convert 7 3/4 to 31/4 and create the proportion:

8/(1/2) = n/(31/4)

16 = 4n/31

16 x 31 = 4n

4 x 31 = n

124 = n

If,
8 ounces --->1/2 pound

Then,
16 ounces ---> 1 pound

Therefore,
16 * 31/4 (Converted the asked mixed fraction)
= 124 ounces.

The answer is option D.
