But I can't articulate why I can't do it t/g = 1/10

Your set up makes sense, but I can't figure out why the second isn't right as well.

10t = g is equivalent to t/g = 1/10. Just divide each side of the first equality by 10g to obtain the second equality (or multiply each side of the second equality by 10g). You can use either one.

We can solve using one of the two methods.

First Method -

As per question stem we know that,
10T=1G
6B=1M
10G=14M

Step 1: Convert T into G, We know that 10T=1G
After solving we get
T:G=1:10

Step 2: Convert B into M, We know that 6B=1M,
So after solving we get
B:M=1:6

Step 3: Convert G into M, We are given: 10G=14M
So we divide both sides by 10 and we solve we get
G:M=7:5

Know we know that, T/G=1/10, G/M=7/5, B/M=1/6.
We can arrange the said same ration into T/G=1/10, G/M=7/5, M/B=6/1,
Now we take LCM, we get 1*7*6 / 10*5*1 (we are arranging in a way so that we get the T/B form), 
So 42/50 or 21/25 i.e. Option E

Second Method -

We know that 
10T=1G -----1
6B=1M ------2
10G=14M ---3

So we multiply equation 2 by 14 both side, we get 84B=14M. We can say in other words that 10G=84B as equation 2 and 3 will be equal.

As 10T=1G, we multiple 10 by each side, we get 100T=10G, which is also equals to 100T=84B,
So, T/B=84/100 or 21/25 i.e. Option E
