The number of 1 Re, 50 paise and 25 paise coins in a bag is in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. If the bag has Rs. 300, find the number of 50 paise coins.

A. 60
B. 96
C. 144
D. 192
E. 240

We can re-express the ratio 3 : 4: 5 as 3x : 4x : 5x.

Since 1 rupee (Re) = 100 paise, then 50 paise = 0.5 Re, and 25 paise = 0.25 Re. Therefore, in terms of rupees (Rs), we can create the equation:

1(3x) + 0.5(4x) + 0.25(5x) = 300

3x + 2x + 1.25x = 300

6.25x = 300

x = 300/6.25 = 48

Thus, the number of 50 paise coins is 4 x 48 = 192.

Re 1,50 paise and 25 paise are present in the ratio 3:4:5.So in terms of value Rs300 is distributed in the ratio of:
\(\frac{3}{1}\):\(\frac{4}{2}\):\(\frac{5}{4}\)
=24:16:10
=12:8:5

Hence value of 50 paise coins is \(\frac{8}{(12+8+5)}\)*300=\(\frac{8}{25}\)*300=Rs96

Now since these are present in the form of 50 paise coins,hence total no of 50paise coins is 96*2=192

IMO d is the correct choice.
