1.5 can also be written as 0.2

1.4 + 0.2 = 1.6

35% of 1.6 = 0.56

We need to find 35% of sum of 1.4 and  \frac{1}{5}

We can re-write  \frac{1}{5}  as 0.2

So we have 1.4+0.2 = 1.6

Now we need find 35% of 1.6

You can directly multiply 0.35*1.6 = 0.56

But since GMAT doesn't test your math calculation skills and is about logic just try an alternate method

Since the options are evenly distributed we can safely assume 35% to 33% or in other words  \frac{1}{3}

so  \frac{1.6}{3}  ~0.53

Hence the closest option is B
