The area of the triangle given the 3 vertices can be found using the method of determinants.
It is as shown in the figure below.
The area is = 0.5 [3(1 - 3) - 8(1 - 3) + 8(1 - 1)
= 0.5 [3 * (-2) - 8 * (-2) + 8 * (0)]
= 0.5 (-6 + 16)
= 5

This is a right triangle, so you can calculate its area using the formula A = ½bh using the two legs. The legs are (3,1) to (8,1), which has a length of 5, and (8,1) to (8,3), which has a length of 2. Therefore, the area is
→ A = ½bh = ½(5)(2) = 5.
