(A) 15
(B) 18

Let the number be x and x-6, and the days are 14 and 21. The ratio of men should be opposite of the days.
So \(\frac{x}{x-6}=\frac{21}{14}=\frac{3}{2}\)
\(2x=3x-18.......x=18\)

Ratio of time taken = 14:21 = 2:3
Ratio of rate required (men required) = 3:2
The difference of 1 is accounted for by 6 men. So multiplier is 6. Original number of men = 3*6 = 18.
Actually only 2*6 = 12 turned up.

The answer is B. Please find below my explanation:

Let us assume that the original number of Men = x

Therefore, x*14 = (x-6)*21 ==> x=18

Explanation:
let x men promised to do the work.Simply equate the man-days involved in the given work i.e

x men* 14 days=(x-6)*21 days
2x=(x-6)*3
x=18 men

Hence B is the correct answer.
