The whole class must take a math test consisting of 3 problems. The class teacher reported to the school that: the whole class could solve at least one problem, in the class 20 students solved the first problem, 14 students solved the second problem, and 10 students solved the third problem. 5 students solved the second and third problems, 2 students solved the first and second problems, only one student solved all three problems. How many students are there in that class?

A. 32
B. 33
C. 36
D. 37
E. 39

Please name the topic as first few words of the question.

All three problems = 1
Only 1st and 2nd = 2-1 =1
Only 3rd and 2nd = 5-1 =4
Only 1st = 20-1-1 = 18
Only 2nd = 14-1-1-4 = 8
Only 3rd = 10-1-4 = 5
Total = 1+1+4+18+8+5 = 37

D

HI chetan2u how did u find only first , only 1st will be = 20 -(only 1st and 2nd + only 1st and 3rd + all three.)
How do we get only 1st and 3rd to be 0?

Since it is a PS and number in ONLY 1 and 3 is not given, we can safely take it as 0.
However, I do believe the question is not worded properly.

chetan2u Thanks for reply . Do we really get such assumption question in GMAT, I never saw any such question in OG in which a value is not given so we are taking it 0.

I made a typo, so the question is missing one piece of information. I am so sorry. Edited.
