Richard starts his journey and then his friend Steve starts it 1 hour later. Richard covers 60 miles in 1 hour hence the new distance between them, when Steve begins, is 140 miles
Now let time taken be x
60x + 40x = 140
=> x = 1.4 hours
Now Steve travels 40x miles = 40 x 1.4 = 56 miles.

Distance covered by Richard in one hour = d = s * t = 60 * 1 = 60 miles.
Richard and Steve now meet at some point in the remaining distance 200 - 60 = 140 miles.
So, they together cover this distance with relative speed of 60+40 = 100 miles/hr.
Time taken to cover this distance = \(\frac{140}{100}\) = \(\frac{7}{5}\) hrs.
Distance covered by Steve in this time = \(\frac{7}{5}\) * 40 = 7 * 8 = 56 miles.
Distance covered by Richard in one hour = d = s * t = 60 * 1 = 60 miles.
Richard and Steve now meet at some point in the remaining distance 200 - 60 = 140 miles.
So, they together cover this distance with relative speed of 60+40 = 100 miles/hr.
