Let's assume the amount paid for the less expensive automobile = $x

Amount paid for the more expensive automobile = $3x - 300

Given

$3x - 300 + x = 9000

$4x = 9300

9000 = x + 3x – 300

9300 = 4x

X = 9300/4

3x-300 = (3*2325) – 300 = 6975 – 300 = 6675
