I have a doubt in this question when question says x=343y, is it 343*y or 343y as a whole 4 digit number. Because all the explained solutions seems to consider 343*y. Can anyone pls explain this

TIA

If "343y" were a four-digit number, it would have been explicitly mentioned. Without such clarification, "343y" can only represent "348*y", as the multiplication sign (*) is typically omitted.

If x = 343y, where y is a positive integer, and x/196 is a terminating decimal, what is the smallest possible value of y?

A. 1
B. 3
C. 5
D. 7
E. 9

Any question where large number are present better factorize to ease things up. Here 343 = 7*7*7 and 196 = 2*2*7*7
Since 7 is common we get
x/196 = 7/4y = 1.75y

Now that we already have a terminating decimal all the answer choice would give terminating decimals only, however, since we need the least possible value of y, y = 1.

Answer A.
