Let s be the number of candy bars in a small box and l be the number in a large box. So, we are given:
s + l = 15
4s + 2l = 40, which gives 2s + l = 20
Subtract the first equation from the second:
(2s + l) - (s + l) = 20 - 15
s = 5
Thus, l = 15 - 5 = 10.
So, 1 large box contains 10 candy bars.
Answer: E.
