lets be defective as X
40=0.8x
x=50

% of defective =50/200=25%

Hence option C is correct

The key is in the exact wording used.

The Critical Clue:

The phrase "40 toys were FOUND defective" uses the word "found" - this indicates an action of discovery/identification, meaning these are only the toys that were detected, not all defective toys.

This is confirmed by the next sentence: "20% of defective toys were NOT identified."

If 20% were NOT identified → 80% WERE identified → Those 80% = the 40 toys that were "found"

So: 80% of Total Defective = 40
Total Defective = 40 ÷ 0.80 = 50

Percentage = 50/200 = 25%

How would it be worded if 40 were the TOTAL defective?

"In a shipment, 40 toys WERE defective" - simple statement of fact
"There were 40 defective toys in the shipment" - direct statement

Notice: No "found" or "identified" language. Just a plain fact.

Answer: C (25%)

Hope this helps!
