For a fundraiser, each of 20 people walked a total of either 2 miles or 5 miles. If they walked a total of 76 miles, how many more people walked 5 miles than walked 2 miles?
(A) 2

Let x be the number of people who walked 5 miles.
Then 20 - x walked 2 miles.
5x + 2(20 - x) = 76
5x + 40 - 2x = 76
3x = 36
x = 12
So 12 people walked 5 miles, and 8 people walked 2 miles.
Difference = 12 - 8 = 4
Answer: B.

Just for fun, let's solve this one using alligation.
Average Miles Walked = 76/20 = 3.8
5 - 3.8 = 1.2
3.8 - 2 = 1.8
1.8/1.2 = 3/2
We see that the ratio of the difference between 2 and the average to the difference between 5 and the average is 3:2.
So, the ratio of the number who walked 5 miles to the number who walked 2 miles was 3x:2x.
5x = 20
x = 4
Number who walked 5 miles = 3x = 12
Number who walked 2 miles = 2x = 4
Difference = 12 - 4 = 4
