True, although there are 2 equations and 2 variables, try and see if you can solve for the variables. Don't they cancel each other out?

It should be E

let p be the price of each ticket

x be the number of people

1. Not sufficient

px = (p+6)(x-100)

100p = 6x - 600

not enough to find x as we dont know p.

2. Not sufficient
(p-6)(x+100) = px -1200
100p = 6x +1800

not enough to find x as we dont know p.

Together ,

not sufficient => Answer is E.


That being said , doesnt look like a typical GMAT problem to me. Because from what i heard GMAT's DS statements never contradict with each other. Not a good question.

OA was C.

But i agree that it should be E. This seems to be an example of the 'lone wolf' type pf questions.

Yeh because both the equations have same 6 and 100 #s, the resultant expression in both the equations are similar. So its E.

Well the OA for this one in the official source was C, but if you proceed on actually solving the equations you soon realize that the correct answer is E.
