If x does not equal 0 what is the value of (x^p/x^q)^2
Since ALL GMAT divisibility questions are limited to positive integers only then question should state that p and q are positive integers. So, it should read:
If x does not equal 0 and p and q are positive integers what is the value of (x^p/x^q)^2
\((\frac{x^p}{x^q})^2=(x^{p-q})^2=x^{2(p-q)}\).
(1) p is a multiple of q. Not sufficient on its own.
(2) q is a multiple of p. Not sufficient on its own.
(1)+(2) From (1) and (2) only one case is possible \(p=q\) --> \(x^{2(p-q)}=x^{2*0}=x^0=1\). Sufficient.
Answer: C.

The question stem hadn't stated whether p and q are positive and that is what caused the confusion. Assuming that both are positive addresses this issue. The question was posted as is from the Jeff Sackman's question set and I was wondering if there is an error in my interpretation.
