Today, Malvika is prepared a dish that needed one and a half bowl of noodles for 4 servings. How many bowls of noodles will Malvika use next Saturday?
(1) Next Saturday, Malvika will make half the number of servings that she prepared earlier today.
(2) Earlier today, Malvika used half a dozen bowls of noodles to prepare her dish.

Am I missing something here, or is (1) perfectly OK to answer the question? Or should I read the question as:
Today, Earlier today and Next Saturday?

Today, Malvika prepared a dish that needed one and a half bowl of noodles for 4 servings.
This means that today she made this dish in which 1.5 bowls were needed for 4 servings i.e. the recipe called for 1.5 bowls for 4 servings. What we don't know is how many servings she actually made today.
Hence 1 is not sufficient. We don't know the number of servings that she prepared today. So we can't say how many servings she will make on Saturday.
Today and earlier today are pretty much the same. Since they used past tense to show that she prepared this dish today (but some time ago) so they used the word 'earlier'

We can also check if our answer choice is correct from the statements given.
Suppose, from statement 1 we infer that Malvika prepared only four servings, looking at statement 2 we can immediately notice that it clashes with our inference from statement 1. Hence our inference should be wrong. To my knowledge, the statements never contradict each other.
