If x is an integer, is x even?
(1) ax is even, where a is an integer. If a itself is even, then x can be even as well as odd. Not sufficient.
(2) x^2 - 1 is an odd integer --> x^2 - 1 = odd --> x^2 = odd + 1 = even --> since x is an integer, then x = even. Sufficient.
Answer: B.

As per second statement.. X can also have a value 0. In question its nowhere stated that x is a POSITIVE integer
So answer should be C
