a+b+c < 5 ----- eq 1
Statement 1 :
b+c-1 > 5
b+c > 4 ------ eq 2
using eq 2 in eq 1. let's say b+c = 5 [derived from eq 2 ]. To satisfy eq 1 a has to -ve number.
Hence statement 1 : Sufficient
Statement 2 :
a < b + c – 1
a < (5-a) -1 [ From eq 1 b+c < 5 -a ]
a< 4 -a
2a < 4
a< 2
Hence statement 2 : Insufficient
IMO : Option A
