What is the ratio of the number of boys to girls on the school bus?

(1) The number of boys is 5 less than twice the number of girls.

(2) The difference between the number of boys and the number of girls is 35.

IF YOU FIND MY SOLUTION HELPFUL, PLEASE GIVE ME KUDOS

(1) The number of boys is 5 less than twice the number of girls. We can write B=2G-5. Even substituting, our ratio would be B/G = (2G-5)/G, which does not simplify to a real number. NS

(2) The difference between the number of boys and number of girls is 35. We can write B-G = 35 --> B = 35+G. Similarly as with (1). This does not simplify to a real number. NS

(1) and (2) combining (1) and (2) We have two variables with two equations: B = 35+G and B=2G-5. Notice that Neither equation is a multiple of the other, so both equations provide new information. From here we can solve 0 = 40-G and G = 40, Thus B = 75, thus B/G = 75/40, but we dont have to calculate this far. Sufficient.

The answer is C
