In a class of 100 students, how many are boys? (There is at least 1 girl)
1. In IIT - entrance exam, 10% of girls in the class failed to qualify.
clearly insufficient as 10% girls indicates
10,20, 30.. 100 girl can be there
2. There are more than 80 boys in the class.
in sufficient
girls can be 19, boys 81
girls can be 18, boys 82
insuffiecient
combine both
more than 80 boys means starting point is 81
hence number of girls failed will 10% of 10 = 1.9 girls not possible
only value of 10% failed and satisfy as integer is girls = 10 and boys = 90
hence C is the answer

- So number of boys can be any above 80...uptil 99........No final answer. ...Insufficient.
Combine S1 and S2:
- Number of boys can more than 80, and 10% of girls in class failed to qualify.
- Number of girls can be 10 as 10% of it (1) failed to qualify. We can't take 20 as number of boys should be more that 80. Hence we get the answer. ...Sufficient.
Option C
