In a class of 100 students, how many are boys? (There is at least 1 girl)

(1) In IIT - entrance exam, 10% of girls in the class failed to qualify.
(2) There are more than 80 boys in the class.
Girls - G
Boys - B
(1) In IIT - entrance exam, 10% of girls in the class failed to qualify.
Number of girls failed = G/10, therefore G must be multiple of 10
Insufficient

(2) There are more than 80 boys in the class
B can be 81 to 99.
Insufficient

(1)+(2);
When B = 90; G =10
Number of girls failed = 1
Sufficient

C is correct

This was fun to solve and may fall under what GMATNinja mentioned in one of his blogs i.e. there is no Math section in GMAT but quantitative reasoning.

Statement I tells us 10% of girls did not qualify, so clearly, this is insufficient
Statement II tells us that we have less than 20 girls in the class, so again not sufficient

Combine both, we know girls are less than 20 and 10% didn't qualify, now no of girls has to be an integer value, and the only possible value is 10. So both together are sufficient
