The formula to calculate surface area is:

2(a*b)+2(a*c)+2(a*c)


Statement 1
Only two sides are give so insufficient

Statement 2
Area is given as 6 for one side i.e. l x b

Insufficient

Combining both of them

three sides can 3,3, & 2 or 2,2, & 3

Two sides from 1 = 2 & 3
Third side can be 2 or 3 (from Area)

If one face measures 2 by 3, clearly the area of another face -- the face exactly opposite that one -- is 6. So when we combine the two statements, we have no information whatsoever about the third dimension of the box (it could measure 2 by 3 by 1 or 2 by 3 by 1,000,000) and the answer is E.

If instead we knew the face with area 6 was immediately adjacent to the face measuring 2 by 3, then there would be only two possibilities: a 2 by 2 by 3 box, or a 2 by 3 by 3 box, though the answer is still E in that case.
