Is xy < 0 ? --> Are x,y non 0 numbers having the opposite signs ?

1) 1 = x - y
5-4 = 1, 4*5 = 20, Positive
-2-1 = -3, -3*1 = -3, Negative
Not sufficient

2) x(x-1) < 0 --> x is > 0, x < 1 -> x is b/w 0 and 1. Nothing about y.

Combining both: y = x -1
x (x-1) < 0 - THus sufficient.
C

I have a doubt . Why are you supposing x and y are non zero numbers ?

Actually - I did consider the 0 case, but did not put that here.
If even 1 of x or y is zero, the answer will be no. This is also a useful case to consider.

But, A is insufficient.
Consider (0.5) -(-0.5) = 1, xy = -0.25 - Negative --> Yes
5-4 =1, 5*4 = 20 No
So A is not sufficient.

1)y-n=x-n-1
y=x-1
x=2,y=1 NO
x=0,y=-1 NO
x=-1,y=-1 NO
SUFFICIENT.

2)0<x<1 nothing about y.
INSUFFICIENT.

A it is.

what if x=0.5 and then y=-0.5
its no where mentioned that x, y are integers.
