(A) is correct IMO

What is the value of |x| − x ?

Statement (1) x ≥ 0
since x ≥ 0 ; |x| = x
|x| − x = 0

Sufficient

Statement (2) |x| > 0
statement only tells x is not 0

Not sufficient

What is the value of |x| − x ?

(1) x ≥ 0
=> |x| = x
=> |x| - x = 0
Sufficient.

(2) |x| > 0

=> |x| - x = 0 or -2x
Insufficient.

What is the value of |x| − x ?

(1) x ≥ 0
if x ≥ 0 => x = |x| => |x| - x = 0
=> Suff

(2) |x| > 0
If x<0 => |x|-x = 2|x| (Ex: |-5| - (-5) = 10)
If x>0 => |x| - x = 0 (Ex: |5| - 5 = 0)
=> Insuff

=> Choice A
