(1) x is an integer

x can be 2/-2
8y^2=200
y^2=25
y can be 5 or -5

We aren't getting a unique value for y.
Statement I is insufficient.

(2) y > 0
200= 2*2*2*5*5/2*2*2*(-5)*(-5)
But y>0
So, y must be 5.
Statement II alone is insufficient.
Ans is option B

Posted from my mobile device

What if y =1 and x^3 be 200 ? We are not given x is integer in statement 2. We need statement 1 for that.

IMHO the answer should be C

I agree. x can be a non-integer.
Ans should be C

If \(x^3y^2 = 200\), and y is an integer, what is the value of y?

(1) x is an integer
(2) y > 0

Question: WHat is the value of y?

Given: \(x^3y^2 = 200 = 2^3*5^2\) adn y is an integer

Statement 1: x is an integer

for x = 2, y may be ±5

NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: y > 0
Case 1: if y = 5, x = 2
Case 2: if y = 10, \(x = 2^{1/3}\)

NOT SUFFICIENT

Combining the statements
we know x and y are integer and y > 0
so the only solution is
x = 2 and y = 5

SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option C
