Statement 1: He traveled a total of 120 miles.
Speed = Total Distance / Total Time = 120/3 = 40 mph
SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: He traveled half the distance at 30 mph and half the distance at 60 miles per hour
Time for first half = (D/2)/30 = D/60
Time for second half = (D/2)/60 = D/120
Total \(Time = t_1 + t_2\)
i.e. 3 = [D/60] + [D/120]
i.e. D = 120
i.e. Average Speed = 40 mph
SUFFICIENT
