We need to know the average speed we need to know total distance travelled and total time it took

We know onward journey took 40 kmph

option 1:
Return journey speed was 3/4 * 40=30 kmph now we don't know the distance travelled during return journey. So not sufficient

Option 2:
K route is (1+2/5) * L but we don't know about speed hence not sufficient.

Now option1 +2
total distance we know as 7/5L+L=12/5L
Total individual speed now we know 40 and 30

total time=7/5L/40 +L/30
so average speed will be (12/5L)/(7/5L/40+L/30)

Since there is L in numerator and denominator it will get cancelled and we will get a distinct number hence this should be sufficient. We don't need to solve it actually as we just need to know if its solvable

Greg travels from city A to city B along route K and returns along route L. Greg's average speed during the onward journey is 40kmph. What is his average speed for the entire trip?

(1) Greg's average speed for the return journey is 3/4ths that for the onward journey.
(2) Route K is 2/5ths longer than route L.

Speed on route L= 40 kmph
Average Speed= ?

(1) Greg's average speed for the return journey is 3/4ths that for the onward journey.
Speed on doute K= (3/4)40= 30 kmph.
We don't know whether the length of routes L & K was same or not.
Insufficient

(2) Route K is 2/5ths longer than route L.
Then, K= (1+2/5)L= (7/5)L
No info about speed while using route K.
Insufficient

(1)&(2)
____Distance _____Speed_____Time
K____(7/5)L_______30kmph____
L____ L ________40kmph____

Average Speed = Total distance/Total time
We can find individual times and total times and total distance to find the average Speed.
Sufficient
