Question

(1) 20% of the men employed at the company are attending the picnic.

(2) 30% of the women employed at the company are attending the picnic.

on simplifying this, we get
Is x=y ?
We don't have any information about if x=y

Let the number of men and women be M and W respectively.

Statement 1:

(1) 20% of the men employed at the company are attending the picnic.

20%(M ) attended the picnic = 0.20 M.

Hence,  Insufficient

Statement 2:

(2) 30% of the women employed at the company are attending the picnic.

30% (W) attended the picnic = 0.30 W.

Hence,  Insufficient

Combining both statements 1 and 2, we get

(0.20 M) / (0.20M + 0.30 W) cannot be found out , as we don’t know the value of M or W.

We also don’t know the relationship between M and W.

Hence,  Insufficient

we need to know if the employees attending the picnic if 40% are male?

Option 1:
20% of the men are attending , no idea about the absolute number of men nor we know about women so not sufficient

option 2:
30% of the women are attending the picnic . No idea about men . So not sufficient

Option 1+2
Now even with both we don't know anything about the absolute value of men and women hence by any means we can not find out if the number of men are more than 40%. Hence option E should be the answer
