Let A be Team Atlas’s score, and let N be Team Nova’s score. The question asks for A.

(1) Compare the total scores of the two teams.

Elena scored 15 more than Mia.

Hugo scored 6 fewer than Theo.

Liam scored 18 fewer than Nora.

So Team Atlas’s total score was:

15 - 6 - 18 = 9 points less than Team Nova’s total score.

Since each team has 3 members, the difference between the team averages is:

9/3 = 3

Therefore:

A = N - 3

This gives only the relationship between the two team scores, not the actual value of A.

Not sufficient.

(2) If Mia had scored 18 points more, Team Nova’s total score would have increased by 18 points.

Since Team Nova has 3 members, its average score would have increased by:

18/3 = 6

So the adjusted Team Nova score would have been:

N + 6

Statement (2) says this adjusted score would have been 20% greater than Team Atlas’s score:

N + 6 = 1.2A

This gives only a relationship between A and N, not the actual value of A.

Not sufficient.

Team Nova scores be:
M, T, N
Atlas average:
A = (E + H + L)/3
Nova average:
B = (M + T + N)/3
We need to find A.
Statement (1)
E = M + 15
H = T − 6
L = N − 18
Add them:
E + H + L
= (M + T + N) + 15 − 6 − 18
= (M + T + N) − 9
Divide by 3:
A = B − 3
We still do not know B, so cannot determine A.
Not sufficient.
Statement (2)
If Mia had scored 18 more, Nova’s total would increase by 18, so Nova’s average would increase by 6.
Thus new Nova average = B + 6
We are told:
B + 6 = 1.2A
This is one equation with two unknowns.
Not sufficient.
Combine (1) and (2)
From (1):
A = B − 3
So:
B = A + 3
Substitute into (2):
(A + 3) + 6 = 1.2A
A + 9 = 1.2A
9 = 0.2A
A = 45
Unique value obtained.

1) Easier when you write -

Cant find x, y, z or the other set of scores using this, hence insufficient. Remove A, D from choices

2) (x+18+y+z) =1.2(E+H+L) cant find Atleas' score using this. Hence insufficient

Together we can solve, since 1.2 is 5/6 and we will have

x+18+y+z= 1.2( x+y+z+3) ...this can be solved to get (x+y+z) from the look of it. Hence Sufficient. So, C is the answer
