Let Raymond’s current weight be R. Then his father’s current weight is 2R.
(1) Raymond’s father weighs 3 times as much as Raymond weighed 5 years ago.
This says 2R equals 3 times Raymond’s weight 5 years ago. But we do not know Raymond’s weight 5 years ago, so R cannot be determined. Not sufficient.
(2) If Raymond’s father weighed 100 pounds more, he would weigh 3 times as much as Raymond.
Raymond’s father weighs 2R, so:
2R + 100 = 3R
R = 100
Sufficient.
Answer: B.
Let Raymond’s current weight be R. Then his father’s current weight is 2R.
(1) Raymond’s father weighs 3 times as much as Raymond weighed 5 years ago.
This says 2R equals 3 times Raymond’s weight 5 years ago. But we do not know Raymond’s weight 5 years ago, so R cannot be determined. Not sufficient.

We have the following, a ratio:
Raymond's weight : Raymond's father's weight = R : 2R
Now, to find Raymond's weight, we need an absolute number that we can use to calculate a specific weight.
(1) Raymond’s father weighs 3 times as much as Raymond weighed 5 years ago.
This statement provides only another ratio.
Since we still have no absolute number for weight, only an absolute number for years, which is not clearly related to weight, we don't have information sufficient for calculating Raymond's weight.
After all, a variety of numbers would fit the two ratios we have.
Insufficient.
(2) If Raymond’s father weighed 100 pounds more, he would weigh 3 times as much as Raymond.
