Hello
Sajjad1994 or anyone else who can urgently review my two essays. Thank You.
The following appeared as part of a column in a popular entertainment magazine:
“The producers of the forthcoming movie 3003 will be most likely to maximize their profits if they are willing to pay Robin Good several million dollars to star in it—even though that amount is far more than any other person involved with the movie will make. After all, Robin has in the past been paid a similar amount to work in several films that were very financially successful.”Your Answer:The argument claims that the producers of a forthcoming movie 3003 will maximise their profits from the film if they pay Robin Good several million dollars to star in it since she has been part of several films where she was paid a similar fees and the films were financially successful. Although the author has some merits, the argument has several questionable assumptions which weakens the conclusion and makes the argument severely flawed.
Firstly, the argument gives is no background information about Robin Good other than the fact that she starred in several successful films where she was paid several million dollars. The author fails to mention the time period of her success. What if, for instance, she was a successful in 1970's but is not as successful 20 years later? It is also possible that the films she worked in were successful because of factors other than Robin Good, like the direction, story line, and other actors. Thus it will be a stretch to conclude that profits of this movie are likely to be maximised if Robin Good stars in it without more information.
Secondly, the argument would have been more clear if the author gave more information about the content of the movie. Without that information, claiming that Robin Good will actually be a good fit for the movie and maximise profits will be a stretch. The author fails to mention if the the movie is a period drama, a science fiction, a romantic comedy. Also no information about its content and story line has been given that will help one determine if it is the type of movie that is popular among audience and if the people will even watch it. The success of a film is based on several factors like is the content in trend, the music, the direction and not just who stars in it.
Lastly, the argument does not give any information about who is determining the likelihood of the profit maximisation if Robin Good stars in the film. The ones making these claims may be Robin Good's management team or Public Relation team in order to have her starred in the film. If these predictions are not made by an unbiased source who is well researched and uses good methodology of analysis, the claims can be unsubstantiated and biased.
In conclusion, the argument fails to discuss several key factors that are important to determine the merit of the conclusion. The argument can be strengthened if more background information about Robin Good and the history of her work is given. Also the content and more detailed information about the the film 3003 is required for better analysis. Most importantly, it is crucial to analyse if the predictions and suggestions about the movie have any credibility to its claims or not. The argument with the given information is neither persuasive nor compelling because it omits several key issues. If the author had backed up his or her points with conclusive evidence and included the items discussed above, then the argument would have been more thorough and convincing.
