My question is: Is it generally better to go to a more well known Macc program that is far away or a lesser known one that is in the region in which you want to live and work after graduation?
I would like to work in Kansas City after I graduate, but would be happy in other midwestern cities that aren't too far away (e.g. Omaha or St. Louis). Looking to start my career in Big 4 Audit.
I got into UMKC's Macc program, but they didn't offer any scholarships although my GPA and GMAT were both well above their averages. Would it be worth it to apply to better schools that are not in the region in which I want to live after graduation (e.g. UTA, UNC, Vandy)? What is the likelihood that I would be able to get back to MO with degrees from these schools?
Note: If I apply to other schools, it will be for the entering class of fall 2012. However, UMKC's program is a year longer than the other three schools I mentioned so it wouldn't really be a setback to wait a year to start school somewhere else. Also, I'm a liberal arts undergrad so mizzou is not an option.

Recruiting for positions in the midwest and south east regions is much smaller (in terms of positions available) compared to bigger metropolitan areas (Chicago, Atlanta, Virginia, NYC, SF, LA, etc). It's much easier to go to bigger well known programs where recruiting is bigger (for example, some schools attract both regional, local, and national recruiting plus advisory services, other than tax and audit) to maximize your returns on graduate education.
