I am a recent college graduate and am taking a year off to prepare for Masters in Finance programs next year and am trying to narrow down my choices. I have read a lot of posts here and I just want some advice on what my chances are for the goals I have outlined for myself.
I graduated in May 2014 as I earlier indicated with a B.S. in Economics and a minor in Political Science from a non-target(UT Dallas).
Academic Profile: I am an international student and am back in India taking my year off. My GPA is 3.85 and I graduated with Latin Honors. I have not taken the GR yet but have been consistently scoring 160 on practice tests. I have written an academic paper and a senior thesis and take multiple classes in the Honors College. I was selected for a super competitive fellowship to take in classes in Washington D.C. Currently learning programming and German
Work experience: I have worked for a small business, worked as a student worker at the school and interned for one of the best lobbying firms in the nation. I am currently working on my own business doing market research and product sales here in Asia. Also I have held other student leadership positions and done so fundraising work for my fraternity's national office.
Extracurricular: Last year I volunteered more than 100 hours. I have been the Student Government President University at my university and held many leadership positions on a state level working with administrators and government officials. I was part of a fraternity, held many leadership positions nationally and at my college. I was selected to be a part of many honor societies in college. Also I am recipient of many scholarships and leadership awards. I have worked with the Clinton Foundation and am currently teaching kids English in India.
Constraints: No finance related internship experience. Also my family is not very well off and I paid through undergrad and doubt they will be able to support me much for grad school.
Goals: My story tells me I am made for S&T and I can probably prove that to many schools. I would like to work in NY but I am fine with a good opportunity in most places.
Schools: Boston College, Vanderbilt, Rochester, Ohio State, Duke, SSE, Villanova primarily.
Question: I would love to know what my chances are of getting into these schools. I would obviously love to go the best school possible but my financial constraints trump that. I would love to hear the school among these who would offer me a spot and the best financial package.
I would be really grateful for all your help and advice and it can really help me in this mad search. Thank you very much for your time!
