Hello everyone!

I’ve got the following problem:
I want to apply to HEC for the 2020 September intake of the MiM program.
They have 4 application rounds. To still make the deadline for round 3 I would need to take the GMAT in about two weeks.
By that time I think I would probably score somewhere between 650 and 670.
The other option is to wait another month, apply in the fourth and last round and hope that by then I can rank up in the high 600s.

However, my overall profile isn’t the strongest either way.
I’m from a no-name German university (Ludwigshafen), have a GPA of 3.6 and a BSc in Int. Business Management. I speak Japanese as a 3rd language (B2-C1, with certification) and I know a little French (A2-B1, no certification). Experience-wise I did a gap year in New Zealand after school, worked in Marketing as a working student during the last year of my Bachelor‘s degree (10 months) and am currently halfway through an 8-month internship at Mitsubishi Fuso in Japan.

Therefore my question: Do you guys think I have a better chance when I apply with a lower GMAT in round 3, or with a slightly higher GMAT in round 4?

Your opinions and thoughts on this would help me a lot. Thanks in advance and greetings from Kawasaki, Japan.

Hi, Welcome to GMATClub. MiM program from HEC ranked top globally. It requires a good GMAT score and good SOPs and strong recommendations. So, Considering you expected GMAT score it is better to apply in round1, otherwise your chances of admission are low.

Hey KanonInJuun,
Welcome to GMAT Club!

HEC is a super competitive school (It enjoys a Harvard like status for MiM) - AND is notorious for recruiting from only the top 10 UG schools of the applicant’s nationality. So honestly HEC is going to be tough to crack.
Though if you are really willing to start your schooling this year you can apply for schools other than HEC Paris. As you have several elements to highlight in your profile such as:
Your GPA - you have a decent GPA and this will help you to outrun some of the competition in the initial phase.
International Experience
Work Experience

These would help you to stand out among your competitors you just need to make sure you have a strong application to highlight these.
You can check our All In One service to know about the comprehensive process and how we can help you to get in your dream b-school. If you are planning to apply for the 2020 intake and have queries regarding the same let me know I would be happy to schedule a call and discuss the same.
