Hi, I was wondering how likely I am to be admitted into these programs.
I study Accounting and Finance at Reading Uni, with 74% average
I am confident I'll get 700+ GMAT and write a strong academic essay.
I have accounting work experience at a small firm in London and equity research experience at a small investment company. They are not well known companies and I was wondering if business schools emphasise on the name and credibility of your internship experiences.
I have also done many extra curricular activities and I am the treasurer of 2 societies at university. Also manage a personal portfolio and conduct a lot of fundamental research on companies.
Do I qualify as a strong candidate?
Thanks
Hi
parsanikoy,
Well to address your query about the importance of brands on resume - Yes B-Schools do place an emphasis on Company brands and having a Tier 1 company on your resume will be a competitive advantage. However, the lack of it is not a deal breaker, provided that you have very strong quantifiable achievements and have held a position of responsibility during your work ex.
As far as your target schools go, well Oxford and LSE will have applicants with a far extensive work experience and CFA under their belt, so unless you have extra-ordinary achievements in our work ex. and extra-curriculars, they would be tough at this point.
LBS's MFA is a pre-experience degree ( so a lot of applicants with more experience will be diverted towards its MFin program) - With a strong GMAT and application, you may have a fair shot so you can bucket it under your dream school.
You can also target competitive schools like Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Duke, Babson - these are good brands and you have stronger chances here.
You can take up a quick profile evaluation to be matched to the best MFin programs as per your profile.
