Hi Guys,
I'm a 23 year old marketing professional with 2.4 years of work ex from startups & E-comm. I'm looking to apply for MBA in Marketing for 2021 intake. Considering my interests that lay in brand marketing & PR and the fact that I have relatively lesser amount of work ex as opposed to most MBA candidates, which B schools (Canada, USA) should I consider?
If not, should I look at pursuing 'MiM'/ or an 'Integrated Marketing Communications' like offered by Medill Northwestern?
Please suggest suitable options/ advice.
TIA.
Hey
shobnaM,
Looking at your profile we would need more details on your academics and extracurricular to evaluate your profile better. Since B-Schools are looking for holistically developed profiles, they judge profiles on the basis of the GMAT/GRE, your GPA and undergraduate Institution and what kinds of extracurricular you have been involved in and what were your contributions there.
Coming back to your work experience, 2.4 years of experience is a bit on the lower side as for theMBA degrees. Most MBA programs require an average work experience of 4-5 years to be getting into the top Business schools. As for your current profile a degree in MIM or a specialised masters would be more ideal than an MBA.
Nevertheless, even though your work experience is slightly on the lower end you can always make up for it by backing it up with a strong application and essays. Properly showcasing the projects you have done, the impacts you have created, the value you have added to the company and how you have been a great asset to the firm can help you to stand out from your peers and compete with applications with longer work experience.
For the USA and Canada you can target the universities listed below :
Dream: Wharton, MIT, Columbia, Ivey and Rotman
Competitive: McGill, HEC Montreal, Schulich, NYU: Stern and Duke
Safe: SMU: Cox, Purdue, Sobey, McMaster and Victoria
Most general MBA programs do have a specialization in marketing. So you could take up any MBA program and specialize in Marketing later on.
Talking about MiM, schools that you can target with 2.4 years of work experience like FSFM, UCD, SSE, EDHEC and Cranfield.
Another option that you can explore instead of the Integrated Marketing Communications program is the MSc in Management program. It would provide you with in-depth knowledge in the field of marketing and post-graduation it would provide you more opportunities in the field of marketing.
Some schools in the USA and Canada offering a MSc in Marketing program are : USC Marshall, Columbia, Michigan, Krannert, Queens, Concordia, Schulich, Ivey and HEC Montreal.
Most of the Business Schools require a GMAT and in case you are yet to give the GMAT you should aim for a score of 690+ as it will help you make your profile stronger.
