Hi! So, yesterday I took the real GMAT and scored a 680 (Q48;34). I really want to pursue MSc Finance at London School of Economics. Should I retake the GMAT or is a 680 with Q48 competitive enough for MSc Finance at LSE?
I would really appreciate your taking the time out to respond to my query.
Hi there,
Before I answer your question, I’d like to clarify that other than the GMAT score, there are lots of factors like your academics and GPA, extracurriculars, and achievements, that play an important role in your chance acceptance into the top schools.
That said, you have provided limited information for me to give you an accurate estimation of your chances in a school like LSE.
Coming on to answering your question, your GMAT score of 680 is pretty competitive and would allow you to target most top B-schools. However, considering the average score for LSE, an overall score of 690 or 700 with 49+ in the Quants section is what would strengthen your pitch for an MSc Finance. As your current score is a bit on the lower end for the school, a retake is what I would recommend.
Having said that, your GMAT holds only 20% of a weightage on your chances of getting accepted, so If you are not willing to go for a retake, you can cover for the shortcomings in your GMAT score by properly highlighting the pragmatic exposure gained through the internships and the extracurricular activities related to finance, you undertook during your undergraduate. Since you have not provided any relevant information regarding these factors, hence it becomes difficult to gauge your profile with the rest of the competition.
On this note, if you’d like to get your profile evaluated and avail suggestions on how to boost your profile and chances of acceptance, you can drop in the details of your profile (academic background, GPA, details of work experiences) on our mail address
[email protected] so I could present you with apt suggestions.
Hope this helped!
