Hi guys.
I am applying for FT MBA for Fall'09 and I applied to 6 schools. (Yale, Haas, Kellogg, Chicago, Stern, Tuck).
So far, I got wait listed at Tuck and accepted at Kellogg and Chicago.
My background:
3.5 UG GPA Top 20 Private School
Major: Accounting
3.8 MS GPA in MS in Information Systems
Work Exp: Almost 4 years so far at Big 4 firm (1.5 in taxation, rest at IT audit)
I have CPA, CIA and CMA.
I never planned on staying in Public Accounting forever. I always planned on long enough to get certified for CPA (at least) and gain experience until reaching a senior or manager position. (Currently a senior)
Perception many people have is that just because you come from public accounting background, it doesn't mean you can't to MBA. In fact, I think we (Big 4 accountants) are in favorable position because we won't necessarily have to concentrate our studies on finance during MBA. (No one will question our fin/accounting skills w CPA)
We can enhance our professional skills by taking on new concentration. I personally plan on concentrating in general management or strategy.
Keep on doing great work at your current jobs as public accountants. Network (you will need rec letters), and take on new challenges to make your application to stand out. Do lots of extra curricular (I ran in 2007 NYC Marathon, JP Morgan Corp challenge etc etc)
PM me if you have any questions.
