Dear Experts,
i gave my GMAT exam on 17th Oct,2013. This was my second attempt.
I scored a 700 (Q50,V33). Im confused as how a score of 33 with a 50 in quant lead to an overall score of 700.
im happy with the overall score but somehow don't understand the calculation. Others people's score of 700 with 50 in quants usually haa a 35+ in verbal.
Can someone please explain me this discrepancy .
Thanks,
Garv
Dear Garv,
First of all, congratulations on an impressive GMAT performance!
I think it's safe to say, we would need Ph.D.'s in psychometrics to understand everything GMAC does in the scoring process! Each scaled score in the individual scales, Q & V, measure how common or rare your score is in that individual scale. Then, the combined score measures, among other things, how likely that combination of scores is. Remember, the CAT is looking at the individual difficulties of each and every question, and I believe, to some extent, both the individual scales and the combined score reflect the unique mix of individual questions you got right and wrong. For whatever reason, the entire gestalt of your performance, what you got right and wrong, has been deemed at the 700-level. Whatever logic they are following is far beyond what 99% of the population could possibly understand. I understand a ton of math and a ton of statistics, and I know what they do with in the scoring process is beyond what I understand. I would say: Don't lose any sleep about this. Just be happy with your score and move on.
Once again, congratulations.
Mike
