Hi GMAT ad consultants and experts,

GMAT re-taker here in a similar dilemma as some other "rare" unfortunate folks.
First attempt 650 (Q48,V32) - IR 7/8 and AWA - 5/6
Second attempt 730 (Q49,V41) - IR 2/8 and AWA 5/6.

I cant explain this, i was just casual about the IR section (dint practice at all after the 1st gmat) and probably overconfident, i dont quite recall if nerves got to me, but I spent way too much time on one q which i shouln't have.

Haven't had a single moment since GMAT (round 2) that I have felt happy about the 730 part of myscore.

Do u think schools would be willing to consider my earlier IR performance 7/8 if i explained my case? i've spent significant part of my 9 yr work exp working in data analysis; graphs/data/analysis/decisions based upon these are my core skills.

please can you explain how'd you improve from a v32 to v41. Im facing difficulties in verbal and am always stuck between v32 and v35.so if you could help me out here, it will be of great help

Hey All,

I am in exactly the same boat as Nanz236. I took my GMAT on May 22nd, 2014 and scored 740 (Q49, V41). IR - 3/8, AWA- Result awaited, but should be atleast 5.0
I scored 680 (Q49, V33), IR-7/8, AWA 5.5 in my last attempt. I am really confused whether I should take the GMAT again.

I am planning to apply in top 10 B-school for January and September 2015 intake. I will sincerely appreciate if anyone can please suggest if a low IR score with a GMAT of 740 will be a red flag for the admission directors.

The score of 2 in IR is certainly a matter of concern. With enough data available relating IR scores to performance in B-Schools, the IR score should get well integrated in the admission process this year.
But there are a couple of positives which may tip the scale in your favor: You got 7 in IR last time (it doesn't change the fact that you got 2 this time but since the schools get to see all the scores, they might believe that this score was more unfortunate than deserved). Also you have work ex in data analysis. Also, your Q/V split is quite balanced.

I think your situation needs a more thorough analysis. You need to talk to an admission consultant, present your complete profile to him/her and he/she will be able to guide you whether a retake might be advisable for your target schools. Also you should look for guidance on how to explain the low IR if the consultant does suggest you to go ahead without a retake.
